Choosing the Right Bike Helmet

At EcoMove, all our helmets meet rigorous European safety standards. Whilst nearly all helmets are built the same, there are some key differences that you should look out for when choosing the right helmet for you.

All helmets consist of an outer shell, an inner padded liner and extra padding for comfort. But it’s important to understand the benefits each type offers and what features are going to be best suited to your type of ride.

Types of Helmet

Traditional Cycle Helmets

Traditional cycle helmets are made with aerodynamics and ventilation in mind. Lightweight and designed with air holes to stop your head from overheating, these helmets deliver comfort as well as protection.

Some Cycle helmets, such as those designed for mountain bike riding, come with a visor and extra coverage on the back of the head. At EcoMove we stock a variety of traditional cycle helmets.

Urban / Skate Helmets

These helmets have a distinctive shape and a little extra thickness which means they can handle multiple impacts without wearing out too quickly.

A Common choice for those who ride BMX bikes or enjoy skating, however the urban style is slick and stylish making it incredibly popular amongst electric and traditional cyclists too.

Open Face Moped Helmets

Our open face helmets are available in a wide range of colours, styles and sizes. We also stock a range of open face helmets with a visor, so there’s no need to invest in riding goggles.

Open face helmets offer style as well as safety, so they’re a great choice for leisure riders.

Full Face Moped Helmets

Full face helmets offer complete facial and skull protection while riding. Available in a wide range of styles and colours, these are the ideal helmet for those looking for full protection.
At EcoMove we stock a large range of full face helmets, suited to all types of rider.

If you’re unsure which helmet is best suited to you, then please stop in-store and take a look at our stock, try on a few and find your perfect match. Our team of dedicated staff will be able to advise you on the most suitable helmets and answer any questions you may have.

Choosing The Right Helmet Size.

It’s important to buy a helmet that is comfortable and fits properly. At EcoMove all of our helmets are adjustable in size so finding the perfect fit couldn't be easier.

To find your size, simply take a tape measure and measure the circumference of your head about two finger widths above your eyebrows.

If you’re falling in-between two sizes, your best option is probably to pop into store and try both sizes on. When the helmet is on, it should feel snug but digging into the skull.

Caring for you bike helmet

Bike helmets can be easily cleaned by washing it in mild soap and water, rinsing thoroughly, and air drying. There is no need for any special maintenance or care beyond this.

If your helmet is damaged in any way, you should look to finding a replacement to ensure that you remain safe while you ride.
